Stars Indoor Sports - Wall Mural

Project Overview

This project involved designing a large-scale wall mural for Stars Indoor Sports, a local indoor sports facility. The company hired me to create a mural that would be installed near one of their practice fields and visually represent the variety of sports played throughout the facility.

The owner wanted the mural to highlight several of the sports commonly played on the field, including baseball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and flag football. In addition to showcasing the different sports, the client wanted the mural to incorporate a Hispanic-inspired visual influence that reflected the culture and diversity of the surrounding community.

Design Direction

I approached the mural as an energetic and colorful celebration of sports and community. Rather than focusing on one individual sport, the composition combines multiple athletes and sporting activities into one unified scene. Each athlete represents a different sport, allowing the mural to communicate the variety of activities offered at Stars Indoor Sports.

The mural uses dynamic movement, bold lettering, and sweeping painted textures to create a sense of energy across the large wall. The flowing shapes and vibrant color transitions help connect the individual sports together while preventing the composition from feeling like a collection of separate illustrations.

The Hispanic-inspired influence was incorporated through the bright, saturated colors, expressive illustration style, and lively visual energy of the mural. These elements were intended to celebrate the Hispanic culture present within the community while still keeping the overall design focused on sports and the identity of the facility.

Typography & Composition

Large, bold typography was used throughout the mural to create strong focal points and reinforce the energetic sports atmosphere. Phrases such as “PLAY,” “GOLL!,” “SCORE,” “SHOOT,” “PASS,” and “JUGAR” are integrated directly into the artwork, allowing the typography to become part of the visual action rather than functioning only as supporting text.

The athletes are positioned throughout the composition to create movement and guide the viewer's eye across the mural. Baseball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and flag football are represented through both the athletes and their equipment, making each sport recognizable while maintaining a cohesive overall composition.

The word “JUGAR,” meaning “to play” in Spanish, was incorporated as a prominent design element to strengthen the Hispanic-inspired direction and connect the sports theme with the cultural influence requested by the client.

Final Concept

The final mural combines sports, movement, color, and community culture into one large-scale visual experience. Instead of simply decorating the wall, the design was created to bring energy to the practice-field environment and communicate the variety of sports played at Stars Indoor Sports.

By combining multiple sports with bold typography and a vibrant Hispanic-inspired aesthetic, the final concept gives the facility a distinctive visual presence while creating a mural that feels energetic, welcoming, and connected to the community it serves.
